Because I run the mail for tony Naples, I see a lot of mailings from the city's various art galleries. Last night, I saw some postcards from a gallery touting one of their artist's exhibitions. The work on the postcard was titled "Unabridged Red," and it looked like the artist had spray-painted a white rectangle on the canvas and then tossed paint on it semi-randomly. There were orange, blue and crimson splotches, but about two-thirds of the canvas was covered with red paint. I looked at the painting and said, "I'm in the wrong line of work. I could have done that!" The artist is probably laughing all the way to the bank. My guess is he must have a salesman-type personality, because he sold that gallery on the idea that this was good art. There's a sucker born every minute.
Speaking of which, I read an article in the paper the other day about how fashion designers are now charging $400-700 for designer flip-flop sandals. The article showed a picture of a pair of $395 sandals that consisted of leather soles and colored rope. Somewhere, there are women who are lining up to plunk down the Benjamins for those sandals. Such a bargain!

Obviously were in the wrong line of work, Clyde. Sounds like its time for the old Bunko squad to be reactivated.
The most expensive shoes I've ever purchased ran near $500, but at least they were shoes. I love footwear, but I doubt I'd pay that much for flip flops.
This reminds me, I saw a hot pair of patent wingtips the other day. I think I may have to go get them.
Welcome back Clyde
mary, mary, mary. (shaking head in dismay) I was forced to go to the mall yesterday. I saw a "Spring Collection" of purses. It made me want to vomit. $370 for a purse? Clyde, what is the most money you have ever spent on a pair of shoes? Or a belt or a wallet or a watch?
Shoes? About $100 for a pair of hiking boots. My work shoes run about $60 or so. I don't wear a belt or a watch (there's always a clock around), and my last wallet was a gift...
Ooops. I didn't mean to be anonymous.
I didn't know you are a hiker. Isn't Florida kinda hot for hiking?
I'm not even going to mention the highest price I've ever paid for a purse.
Barbara, I bought those hiking boots in about 1984 when I was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. They were stolen, along with some of my other stuff, when my household goods were shipped to West Berlin in 1985. Some thieving weasel in New York ended up with them (since my stuff was shipped through there).
$100 for hiking boots twenty years ago is A LOT of money. No wonder the thieving weasel snagged 'em. They musta been nice ones.
